M. Shave (Tobacconist) was started at the turn of the century in Newbury, it had several owners over the years and since 1991 has been owned by Paul & Karen Gilmour.

They opened another shop in Reading, which has continued to grow, and in 1998 decided to close the Newbury shop and enlarge the Reading store also starting their web site.

Ever since Paul & Karen came into the tobacco trade they have had a special person who they could call on for help and advice; Alan Coster of Coster & Son Ltd, Marlow, Bucks. Alan's Grandfather started his business 136 years ago, and as Alan is now retired he has shut his doors for the last time, ending an era.

At a time when Specialist Tobacconists seem to be on the decline, it was a shame to see the Coster name disappear from the trade, so Paul & Karen as a tribute to Alan have incorporated the Coster name into their business, thus becoming Shave & Coster

The company motto of "The customer always comes first" still stands as it always has, "Without the customer you have nothing" states Paul.

Shave & Coster were awarded the Pipe Shop of the Year trophy in 2000 and then in 2005 won the Peterson (Dublin) retailer of the Year. On top of these, we have twice been nominated for Havana cigar shop of the year.

Paul and Karen's son James is now the manager of the Reading shop, since Paul divides his time between Reading and their new shop in Cardiff.

A massive range of cigars from Cuba, Dominican Republic, Honduras, Brazil and Nicaragua held in stock, along with Humidors cutters and cigar sundries.

About 50 loose pipe tobaccos and that many more again in tins and packets, along with 25 loose flavoured hand rolling ones gives the largest selection for many miles.

Add to this 100's of pipes and lighters, which together makes it a paradise, a must to visit for any discerning smoker.
